Tisdag, v. 35

Today, we're going to get started on Lumosity.com. Go to the website and create an account. We're going to focus on the games that practise attention and memory. We only have access to a few games since we are not paying members. Use the attention and memory games you have access to and practise those. We will start every English class with ten minutes Lumosity this fall, and hopefully our attention and memory skills will improve.

Morgondagens läxa!!!

Only ten of you have sent me links to material you would like us to use in English class. Each person sends TWO links. One is  a back-up and it should be obvious which one is the back-up. So, don't forget to send the links tonight.

Tomorrow, in class, you should be able to give a very brief introduction to ONE of your choice. You should tell the class what kind of text you have chosen and what it is about.

Måndag v. 35

Idag går vi igenom kursplanen samt språkhistoriens grunder.
Språkhistoriens grunder - text

Prova att öppna texten i Explorer om det inte fungerar i din vanliga webbläsare.

Länkar till ställen med intressant material

At these places you can look for interesting material for class.

Youtube.com - no introduction needed, right?
Vimeo.com - high-quality videos. Often quite artful.
Podfeed.net - Here, you can find links to many interesting podfeeds, neatly arranged in categories
Språklänkportalen - radio - This is a radio program directory. A good place to start out. The links have been provided by English teachers. Yeah!
Digg.com - a place that collects links to the most popular material on the web. If you want fun, weird stories - this is the place to go. The material is rated by the users.
The BBC - this webpage is the doorway to a lot of great material. They have TV, radio and articles about everything.

So, get otu there and find interesting things. It doesn't have to be from these sites, obviously, but these are good places to start out.

Onsdag v. 34

This is the task for Tuesday of next week. Find two texts that you think we should use in English class. I use the term "text" loosely. It could be song, a poem, a video clip, a short story, an extract from a novel or a tv-show, an article, a podcast a review or something else. Whatever you choose, it has to meet these criteria:
  • It should be aimed at an adult or "young adult" English-speaking audience. Basically, this means the language should not be adjusted for younger people or foreigners in any way.
  • It has to contain a "good enough" language. We must be able to learn some language from it, that is.
  • The content should have something that we could discuss, or enjoy - so a manual for microwave oven for instance is not a good choice even though it is aimed at an adult audience and contains a "good enough" language.
  • If it is a video clip or podcast, the quality of video and the sound has to be good.
Choose your texts and introduce it to me and the class on Tuesday. You will have time during class to send me the links. Your introduction should contain a summary of the content, what kind of medium/ text type it is and an explanation for why you chose it and how you think others may benefit from it.

Tomorrow afternoon, I will post some links that could help you find places to search.

TIsdag v. 34
